Steam Receiver Models for Solar Dish Concentrators: Two Models Compared
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. Abstract This paper presents two approaches developed at the Australian National University for modelling the transient response of a parabolic dish steam cavity receiver. Both approaches are based on a heat transfer model for a cylindrical pipe using a moving-boundary formulation, and feature the ability to model multiple phase flow that changes dynamically. A model simulation is implemented in TRNSYS 16 and compared against an experimental run for the ANU 500m2 “SG4” system.

Direct Steam Generation with Dish Concentrators
This paper presents current research on Direct Steam Generation (DSG) by the Solar Thermal Group at ANU. It includes ongoing work on a transient model for a dish steam cavity receiver that is suitable for model-based control of DSG as well as reporting on the experimental set-up on a new 500m paraboloidal dish solar concentrator. A comparison of two transient models of a dish steam cavity recei...
متن کاملModelling of a 400m steam based Paraboloidal Dish concentrator for solar thermal power production
The Australian National University has a 400m Paraboloidal dish solar concentrator system, informally named “the Big Dish” that produces superheated steam via a receiver mounted monotube boiler. The system, (shown in Figure 1) which is the worlds largest was constructed in 1994. This paper describes the results of the latest experimental tests plus associated system performance modelling. The s...
متن کاملAmmonia Receiver Design for Dish Concentrators
This paper describes a general method for evaluating receiver designs for ammonia-based energy storage with dish concentrators. The method involves ray-tracing to determine the concentrated solar flux profile on the reactor surface, followed by a simulation which calculates reaction extents and heat losses. In this paper, five receiver designs were investigated with varying cone angles and plac...
متن کاملComputational and experimental investigations into cavity receiver heat loss for solar thermal concentrators
Tubular cavity receivers offer excellent prospects as low-cost, high-efficiency heat collection elements for paraboloidal dish solar-thermal concentrators, as well as for central tower systems. Major heat loss mechanisms for these receivers are convection and radiative emission, as well as reflection and spillage (non-capture). Compared to glazed receivers, convection heat loss can be quite a l...
متن کاملEnergetic and Exergetic Performance Evaluation of a Solar Dish Based Dual Receiver Combined Cycle
Solar Thermal Power Plants with concentrating technologies are important for providing a major share of the clean and renewable energy needed in the future. Dish based system is a promising option for power generation since it has high concentration ratio and it does not require a large space. This paper presents a proposed solar dish based combined cycle: air based Brayton cycle as the topping...
